Since the internet can have many different and inappropriate websites for 2nd graders. I will be very concerned for them while they explore the internet. It will be hard to see what they access at home, but I will always advise them to use the computer while a parent or another adult is around to help ensure that they are not going onto these inappropriate websites at such a young age. In class though I know there is a way to block certain internet sites so that the children will not go on them. By doing this it will help the students have fun on the computer by using but at the same time being restricted to certain websites.

I consider this to be a fun educational website for elementary school students. This website has many different learning games which are fun for the students to learn about different subjects. The subjects span from math to science and to even spelling. I think it will be an easier and more fun way for the students to practice some of the things that they have learned at their home.

I liked the example when Mr. Harrison assigned the students to make a newspaper using MS Word. I thought it was interesting how made the students base it on England in 1066. I think Mr. Harrison creatively made the students use Word to understand the functions of the program. I think it was a good way in teach the students how to use the many different functions of Word but at the same time trying to make the assignment more fun for the students.
I know how basically all the functions in MS Word, but this class has taught me one thing that I did not know how to do on Word. I learned how to use the Page Break function. This is helpful because it allows me to go to the next page without pressing the space bar fifty million times. This class has also taught me to zip and unzip a folder which I never knew how to do. As a teacher this will help me when I need to send a folder through email. Before I never knew what to do and now since I know how to compress the folder, it will allow me to do this. I also did not know many of the short cut keys for MS Word. But this class has helped me realized that there are many more short cut keys than I thought and this will help me as a teacher so I can easily maneuver around Word without using the mouse a lot.

The use of computers and technologies at a young age will benefit the students later on in school. Since many students are “victims of digital divide”, I think it is very important that students begin to learn at least basic computer skills at a young age. Learning how to use the computer can not only be a teaching assistant in the classroom, but it can also be a more fun way of learning. Many teachers use the cognitive tools daily in the classroom. If students do not understand what she is doing then they will face difficulties. I do agree with what Chapter 1 was saying, in that modern day technologies are very effective in the classroom. From being in the classroom I know that I have grown up with technologies in the classroom and did enjoy learning from it.
I think I would most definitely using the cognitive tools, such as word processing, PowerPoint’s and other images and videos from the internet. Since I enjoy learning visually, I am probably going to use many visuals when I teach. I think it will be a more interesting way to teach in the classroom. I hope that this class will teach me to utilize the instructional models. I would like to incorporate more tutorials and drill-and-practice software’s in the classroom. I am open learn these new ways of using technologies in the classroom.
Since I would like to teach kindergarteners, I am excited in using fun videos and images from the internet. When I started kindergarten, the way my class learned was through storybooks and picture cards. But now it will be more interesting to see how the other kindergarteners react to these same images, but more technologically. I think it would also be fun to use computer games such as Reader Rabbit, which was one of my favorite games when I was a child. I am hoping that I can use my past experiences with technologies and apply them to the classroom today.

My experiences with technology have probably been the same as most students in this class. I have the basic knowledge of how to use the computer and other certain computer programs. I have learned to use the programs such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint from other classes. Other than that I use the computer daily for personal reasons by mainly using the internet to check my email, etc. I am no computer pro, but I pretty good at the basic concepts of the computer.
From this class I am hoping to become more equip with the functions computer. Hopefully I will be able to learn new things about the programs that I have used before. I would also like to learn how to use other programs that I have never used before. I am hoping that all these skills that I learn will help improve my teaching abilities and hopefully I will find useful ways in applying these skills in the classroom. I would like to learn these new skills so one day I can make the learning experience for my students more fun and more interesting.
From the learning test that I completed, I appear to be very much of a sensor and visual learner. Based on how I have learned this appears to be true for me. I am a sensor learner because I do enjoy and understand learning the facts more than theoretical concepts and if it is a fact I will be more likely to memorize and understand more than uncertainties. I am also very much a visual learner because I understand concepts better when I see them. When I see something I am able to grasp it better than when someone tries to verbally explain something to me. I also am sequential learner because I learn better when very clear and precise steps are given. At the same time I am more of an active learner, where I enjoy classmates discussing what they have learned so I will be able to grasp the concepts more easily.
